Coop Consumatori Nordest and Datalogic Even more Salvatempo™ for Coop consumers

Quinto di Treviso, 29th February 2008
– The scene of the retail world is rapidly evolving especially thanks to the ongoing progress in devising systems that improve customer satisfaction and customer relations.

Among all Coop stores, Coop Consumatori Nordest, with a sales network of 8 Hypermarkets and 74 Supermarkets in the regions of Emilia Romagna, Lombardia, Eastern Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, has been a leader of Salvatempo™ solution based on Datalogic Shopevolution™ which grants its customers an enjoyable and fun shopping experience in full autonomy, with no extended check out times: which translates into more time shopping and less time during check out.

The partnership between Coop Consumatori Nordest and Datalogic for the introduction of Salvatempo™ self-shopping service dates back to 2003, to this day has grown to 20 stores equipped with this system, the most recent being the store of Castiglione delle Stiviere (Mantua) on 12 November 2007.

The Salvatempo™ service for Coop customers relies on their use of a portable terminal picked up at the store entrance. The terminal is then used to scan the barcodes of the items to be purchased. It also displays, on its large color monitor, information on in-store special offers, the total amount to be paid, as well as loyalty points balances.

The portable terminal is then returned at the Salvatempo™ checkout stations where the total amount due will be provided by the operator with no need to have the items scanned again.

Coop customers are showing great appreciation for Salvatempo™ which, in some cases, may reach 25% of the store’s monthly turnover.

And this is just the beginning! Coop Consumatori Nordest may choose to offer its customers additional exclusive services by implementing other innovative features provided by Datalogic Shopevolution™ service: self-checkout, order-picking for internet orders, digital merchandising (in-store and out-of-store multimedia promotional messages and news through Shopevolution™ and cell phones) and Push Marketing thanks to the partnership between Coop and the consumer goods industry.

“The achievements of Shopevolution™ with appreciations shown by major European retailers lead Datalogic in pursuing and steadily invest in this endeavor; this year outstanding sale results are confirming that commitment on Shopevolution™ has proven successful” says Roberto Tunioli, Datalogic Vice-Chairman and CEO.
