Striking a pose for our fortieth anniversary portrait
by Mauro Sacchetto

2012 is an important year for Datalogic: we are celebrating our first forty years in business. Attaining maturity and, at the same time, reaching the starting point for new and ambitious objectives is one of the highest achievements for a human being. The same can be said for Datalogic. 2011 was the year in which we achieved the best results of our entire history, both in terms of business growth and increasing our global scope of activities. New acquisitions in the American market allowed us to incorporate innovative, futuristic vision technology and become world leaders in our sector. Meanwhile, the development of the plant in Vietnam represented a real milestone for our increasingly strategic presence in Asia.

2012 also marks the cultural and operational integration of the new companies within the Group, further strengthening those factors that have always distinguished us: vision and action on a global level, where internationalisation is the defining characteristic. At the same time, there is a part of our operation that remains anchored to the local aspects of our history. We like to think of ourselves as a tree: we have solid roots in our birthplace of Bologna, but also many branches, just as vital, spread throughout the world where we have nine plants, where we sell 91% of our products, and where over two-thirds of our employees come from, distributed across 30 different countries.

The secret of Datalogic’s performance in recent years and of the excellent position the company finds itself in today, despite the crisis, lies in our employees. At all levels we are a close-knit team in which different cultural backgrounds are linked by a common passion, united in a collective effort. Our goal is to aim high, while always caring for individuality.

That's why the photograph chosen to celebrate our fortieth anniversary could only be a group portrait. It is the people of Datalogic appearing in this book who are the Group’s greatest asset; they are the creators, in their daily work, of the innovation that is for us the most important product of all. Their portraits reveal the complex web of human and cultural relationships, of different knowledge and skills, that allows Datalogic to move forward with multinational processes and global performance.

We speak many languages in our plants across the world, but we understand one another in a common alphabet, that of innovation. The interpretation of this has been entrusted to Evan Baden, a young and talented photographer. We believe that the portrait of the business culture that has brought us here can be made yet more beautiful, with an even more appreciable value, when seen through the lens of an artist who is already recognised at international level.

This is the photograph of the fortieth anniversary of Datalogic – ready to fly higher still.
