Datalogic supports the fight against Coronavirus - Datalogic - Datalogic

Datalogic, a multinational technology company based in Bologna, Italy and leader in the markets for automatic data capture and process automation, has made a significant donation of bar code readers and mobile computers to the Sant'Orsola-Malpighi Hospital in Bologna and to various other hospitals in Lombardy and in the rest of Northern Italy. These Datalogic devices are specifically designed for "bedside" patient care and real-time traceability of drugs, as well as streamlining the patient acceptance and identification phase while managing their electronic medical records. In the dramatic situation we are experiencing, the timeliness and precision of hospital interventions are crucial for the safety of the population.

"The use of Datalogic bar code readers facilitates our medicinal traceability activities, in the management of blood bags and in the administration of drugs to cancer patients," says Eng. Luca Capitani, ICT Director of the Sant'Orsola-Malpighi Hospital. "The donation of readers in this critical phase allows us to improve and optimize the service in the departments dedicated to patients with COVID-19".

These devices, in fact, are designed to reduce possible bacterial contaminations. Silver-Ion additives added to the plastic inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as germs and bacteria. The outer shell of devices is made of antimicrobial plastic that repels pathogens, limiting their infectious diffusion and is resilient to withstand numerous cleanings by harsh medical disinfectants approved by EPA. This greatly reduces the risk of germs remaining on the devices and being transmitted between healthcare professionals and patients.

"I believe it is the precise duty of everyone to offer their contribution to deal with this unprecedented health emergency with maximum effectiveness, each according to the resources they have at their disposal", says Valentina Volta, Group CEO of Datalogic. “The provision of high-tech devices for hospitals is a fundamental step in the fight against COVID-19. We are proud to be able to make our medical devices available, which are able to make hospital activities more efficient and protect the work of all the heroes who fight in the forefront of this very hard battle every day, putting their lives at risk to save ours”.
